Details

Description:

A figure of both seasoned magic and wartime grit, his face is etched with lines of experience and a confident, almost roguish, smirk, that is framed by a neatly trimmed and upturned mustache. Instead of a traditional wizard's hat, he wears a worn leather flying cap, its straps dangling by his chin, with a pair of antique flying goggles perched on his forehead.
Over a dark blue, long-flowing robe adorned with subtle, medallion-like symbols of arcane rank, he wears a classic, brown leather flight jacket. The sheepskin collar is turned up against the chill, and the jacket itself looks well-loved and lived-in. A broad leather belt cinches his robe at the waist, from which a large buckle gleams.
In one gloved hand, he clutches a gnarled, dark wooden staff, its top branching out to cradle a brilliant, icy-blue crystal that hums with magical energy. In his other hand, he holds a rolled-up scroll, its edges yellowed and its surface bearing the faint lines of an ancient, enchanted map. The faintest ethereal, glowing ring of pale blue light swirls around his head, a subtle crown of power earned in swirling clouds. Here is a man who clearly navigates the skies, not with some newfound muggle "plane" contraption, but with a broomstick and pure, unbridled magic.

Session Interactions
Session 01 - Welcome to Hogwarts Peeves the Poltergeist delivers a note to Cassie Weasley, Vi Thorne & Basil Featherstone on behalf of Jackdaw Finch. He delivers it by way of a dead taxidermy owl.
Session 01 - Welcome to Hogwarts Cassie Weasley, Vi Thorne & Basil Featherstone visit the School Kitchens in search of clues and Jackdaw Finch. They learn the way to access the kitchen at will.
Session 01 - Welcome to Hogwarts Cassie Weasley, Vi Thorne & Basil Featherstone are each given a weird pocket biscuit by Flick in the School Kitchens"A tingling sensation spreads through your chest, and you feel an undeniable pull as if a string has been connected to your belly button.". This leads you towards Professor Finch
Session 01 - Welcome to Hogwarts Professor Finch untransfigures from his moth animagus form and reveals himself as an observer to this, the first test of the inaugural 1939 Hogwarts DIADEMs. He reports that Flick and Peeves the Poltergeist were both (up to a point!) acting on his intructions and he had told them to observe you too.
Session 07 - Falling Down Percival Graves, Dept of Secrets arrives at Thorne's Remedies asking questions that seemed to be trying to implicate Jackdaw Finch in something. Vi manages to eavesdrop despite her mother sending her out back on a spurious errand
Session 07 - Falling Down Receiving Vi's letter via Puffin (Thorne Family Owl), Cassie & Basil use the Messaging Scrap to inform Jackdaw Finch that Percival Graves, Dept of Secrets visited Vi at Thorne's Remedies seeking incriminating information on him
Session 07 - Falling Down Jackdaw Finch visits Thorne's Remedies to apologise to Morwenna & Thomas Thorne for his former Ministry colleague's (Percival Graves, Dept of Secrets) impromptu visit. Once again a protective Morwenna (Moira) Thorne attempts to hide Vi, this time using a powerful Fidelius Charm. Vi overhears most of the conversation nevetheless, including one particularly striking phrase from her mother regarding some of Vi's experiences at the Forbidden Forest Test Pit: "Seeing that which is hidden"
Session 07 - Falling Down Vi studies the academic papers taken from Septimus Finch's old desk in Cold Plant Room. They seem to focus on themes of attraction, repulsion, magnetics and proximity. Not fully understanding them she undertakes to return them to Jackdaw Finch admitting their theft.
Session 11 - First Year Flyby Intending to try and bypass the Ministry of Magic squad at the Hogsmeade sinkhole, Cassie obtains from Jackdaw Finch a sample of Percival Graves' signature. She uses it to forge a permission slip to enter the skinkhole.
Session 11 - First Year Flyby Cassie, carrying the strange metal box, uses the Messaging Scrap to contact Jackdaw Finch. He informs her that she, Vi and Basil are in danger. The Ancient Magical IED seems to be a hugely powerful weapon or disruptor. On Jackdw's advice, Cassie abandons the device at the back of a large chamber
Session 03 - Foray Into the Forbidden Forest As Cassie, Vi & Basil conclude that there is something uneasy - wrong almost - with the Forbidden Forest, Jackdaw Finch untransfigures from his moth form and approaches the group looking stern
Session 13 - Under More Controlled Conditions Cassie, Vi & Basil learn a handful of new spells courtesy of Prof. Blishwick and Jackdaw Finch, clearly chums of old it would now appear. You learn:
Session 13 - Under More Controlled Conditions Cassie, Vi & Basil returned to the caverns beneath the Hogsmeade Sinkhole, this time with Jackdaw Finch, Myrddin Blishwick and a little more time. Navigating an intentionally created (track-covering) rockfall, you entered through an already magically-opened door, as opened by Cassie in Vi's vision in Session 08 - Aftermath
Session 13 - Under More Controlled Conditions Cassie, Vi & Basil take Jackdaw Finch to Eleonora's Rest though find no sign of Eleonora Humblewood (dec.) this time
Session 13 - Under More Controlled Conditions Jackdaw Finch secures the Ancient Magical IED, with the intention of calling in the specialists from the Ministry of Magic to ensure/make it safe
Session 13 - Under More Controlled Conditions Cassie, Vi & Basil fly with Jackdaw Finch along the tunnels beneath the Hogsmeade Sinkhole and surrounding valley, eventually finding the underside of Bartemius (Barty) Finch (dec.)'s Strange Latrine-like chest. Using Partis Temporus to break through the magical barrier you all returned to the Cold Plant Room
Session 13 - Under More Controlled Conditions Cassie, Vi & Basil finally confess to Jackdaw Finch that they removed an Ancient Magic crystal from the Cold Plant Room. Realising now what the machinery in there was missing, Jackdaw Finch completes the restoration as best as he could and continued his excitable experiments into Septimus Finch's work. 'Perhaps by a man's work shall ye know him'
Session 08 - Aftermath Cassie shares the detail of her vision of the glass-map Hogwarts Valley with Jackdaw Finch but is unable to get him away from Armando Dippet as she does so and presumes he overheard at least some of it.
Session 08 - Aftermath Cassie reveals to both Jackdaw Finch and Armando Dippet that she knows Specialis Revelio. She did not explain specifically that this is somehow attributable to her Elder Wand.
Session 08 - Aftermath Jackdaw Finch reassures Cassie that "if you truly can exert some influence over events consider that a blessing. You did not condemn two places, but saved one. And a noble one at that." (in reference to Locharbor). Cassie remains troubled by the undeniably troubling events however.
Session 05 - Trouble at the Mine After an urgent message from Jackdaw Finch, Cassie, Vi & Basil head to the HVMC test pit in the Forbidden Forest. There they find 5 British paratroopers, presumably on training manoeuvres, being puzzled by the 'Illusory Dome' that Kiko has erected to deter muggle curiosity
Session 05 - Trouble at the Mine Cassie pretends to be a distressed child, seeking to either draw Jackdaw Finch out of the cave or to distract the British soldiers. She inadvertantly moves through the illusory dome and glimpses the mining equipment beyond before returning to the successful subterfuge.
Session 05 - Trouble at the Mine Cassie witness the arrival of Jackdaw Finch and Kiko into the fray with the muggle soldiers. Jackdaw Finch Obliviates them as Cassie Wingardium Leviosas the leader's weapon when gunfire breaks out. Kiko then does some kind of Finger-of-Death bullshit on the Lieutenant who dies immediately. Jackdaw Finch is not pleased.
Session 05 - Trouble at the Mine As Cassie, Vi & Basil aid Jackdaw Finch in preventing the escape of any of the muggle soldiers (whilst also stopping Kiko from doing anything else crazy), Jackdaw tweaks the memories of the survivors and sends them on their way. He then disapparates to report the incident to the Ministry of Magic, despite Cassie's attempts to persuade him to... tidy up... by other means.
Session 06 - Arania Exumai! Cassie, Vi & Basil use the Messaging Scrap to contact Jackdaw Finch at the Ministry of Magic. Jackdaw explains that he is 'smoothing things over. Speak to no one on your way back to the castle'. With which, the party returns stealthily to the safety of the School grounds.
Session 06 - Arania Exumai! Cassie, Vi & Basil return to the Cold Plant Room hoping to better understand some of its strangeness. They explore the freezer field, a Strange Latrine-like chest and the desk of Jackdaw Finch, and presumably his brother, Septimus Finch before him
Session 06 - Arania Exumai! Cassie reads some personal correspondence of Jackdaw Finch. 1. A letter from Alastair Thorpe-Wick, Head of the Department of Mysteries telling Jackdaw to "Give up on Septimus. Concentrate on your mission. The children must not fall into darkness". 2. A family newsletter from a family member Olivia Finch (addressed to Titus, apparently Jackdaw's real name) and 3. an apparent Messaging Scrap bearing the remaining messages "Now" and "Where are you?". Basil's investigation of the latter revealed that it was written by Jackdaw whilst on broomback
Session 02 - First Lessons Cassie Weasley deceives Penelope (Penny) Perkins into completing the first night homework set by Jackdaw Finch. Penelope (Penny) Perkins ultimately ropes her study buddy (Vi Thorne in to helping too, eventually completing the homework and learning that it was not necessary for her)
Session 02 - First Lessons Cassie Weasley docked 5 house points by Mirabel Garlick for being rude about a teacher (Jackdaw Finch)
Session 02 - First Lessons Vi Thorne & Cassie Weasley (Karima) meet Agnes Finch, a fellow Hufflepuff 1st year who revealed herself as the niece of Jackdaw Finch and the missing Septimus Finch
Session 04 - Voices from Elsewhere The party have an opportunity to speak with Jackdaw Finch about Septimus Finch's disappearance 8 yrs ago in the Forbidden Forest. Most assumed he was lost to some beast but no remains were found and Jackdaw doesn't believe. Septimus was working with Armando Dippet, Horace Slughorn and others to "make the forest safer for wizardkind" (controlling paths, negotiating a centaur treaty etc). They even made some progress placating the goblins who wanted to mine the area for (ancient) magic
Session 04 - Voices from Elsewhere Jackdaw Finch announces the DIADEMs first field trip to the HVMC-run Hogwarts Valley Mine in the last week before half term. He has offered the DIADEM's help in establishing their initial operation, however they'll need to learn a few tricks first
Session 04 - Voices from Elsewhere Jackdaw Finch gives Basil a Messaging Scrap, which can carry short messages between it and one much like it in Jackdaw's possession
Session 04 - Voices from Elsewhere Cassie, Vi & Basil join Jackdaw Finch for their first formal DIADEMs lesson, learning Arania Exumai in the Cold Plant Room. Upon arriving, they find the scenes in the 'greenhouse' windows to have changed (at Jackdaw's behest) since they were last here
Session 04 - Voices from Elsewhere Cassie, Vi & Basil have an opportunity to question Jackdaw Finch. He is suprisingly forthcoming, having perhaps realised he cannot carry all of the weight he does alone. They learn that he has had a difficult start at Hogwarts, with the faculty resenting his Ministry of Magic associations. He is an Investigator in the Department of Mysteries, tasked with - amongst other things - attending to the Hall of Prophecy. The ministry sought volunteers to embed themselves at Hogwarts to prevent strong young wizards 'going dark'. Given his desire to investigate Septimus Finch's disappearance, he took the role.
Session 04 - Voices from Elsewhere Jackdaw Finch appears as startled as Cassie & Basil when Vi somehow manages to change the view outside the windows by sheer force of will. He had been experimenting with his older brother's 'settings', but had achieved nowhere near the level of control that Vi exhibits
