| Session 01 - Welcome to Hogwarts | Cassie Weasley, Vi Thorne & Basil Featherstone are each given a weird pocket biscuit by Flick in the School Kitchens"A tingling sensation spreads through your chest, and you feel an undeniable pull as if a string has been connected to your belly button.". This leads you towards Professor Finch |
| Session 01 - Welcome to Hogwarts | Vi Thorne cleans up the vomit of Basil Featherstone & Cassie Weasley, leaving Reginald (Reggie) Cattermole to conclude that Peeves the Poltergeist stole the bracelet from A 4th year Hufflepuff girl. In reality, Bernard did it. |
| Session 01 - Welcome to Hogwarts | Cassie Weasley, Vi Thorne & Basil Featherstone take cover in a disused room in the Hufflepuff Tower/School Kitchens basement. The room is filled with inert plants and a freezing aura that harms Cassie Weasley. Hereafter known as the Cold Plant Room |
| Session 07 - Falling Down | Vi spends autumn half term 1939 working at Thorne's Remedies and catching up with her parents - Morwenna (Moira) Thorne especially. |
| Session 07 - Falling Down | Vi reads the academic paper that Morwenna (Moira) Thorne co-wrote with Septimus Finch, Book - On The Properties of Star Grass, taking the half term opportunity to ask her mother about it. |
| Session 07 - Falling Down | Percival Graves, Dept of Secrets arrives at Thorne's Remedies asking questions that seemed to be trying to implicate Jackdaw Finch in something. Vi manages to eavesdrop despite her mother sending her out back on a spurious errand |
| Session 07 - Falling Down | Vi borrows Puffin (Thorne Family Owl) to send a message to Cassie & Basil at Hogwarts. She recounts the entire experience with Percival Graves, Dept of Secrets visiting Thorne's Remedies |
| Session 07 - Falling Down | Cassie asks Headmaster Dippet about the crystal she took from Cold Plant Room (pretending she found it in the Forbidden Forest Test Pit). Dippet says that they are inert unless imbued with some sort of power and he seems unrecognising and unaware of any special significance to this particular crystal. Cassie does not share where she truly found it or the effect it seemed o have on them (and on Vi expecially) |
| Session 07 - Falling Down | Receiving Vi's letter via Puffin (Thorne Family Owl), Cassie & Basil use the Messaging Scrap to inform Jackdaw Finch that Percival Graves, Dept of Secrets visited Vi at Thorne's Remedies seeking incriminating information on him |
| Session 07 - Falling Down | Jackdaw Finch visits Thorne's Remedies to apologise to Morwenna & Thomas Thorne for his former Ministry colleague's (Percival Graves, Dept of Secrets) impromptu visit. Once again a protective Morwenna (Moira) Thorne attempts to hide Vi, this time using a powerful Fidelius Charm. Vi overhears most of the conversation nevetheless, including one particularly striking phrase from her mother regarding some of Vi's experiences at the Forbidden Forest Test Pit: "Seeing that which is hidden" |
| Session 07 - Falling Down | Vi works with Morwenna (Moira) Thorne to fashion the unprecedentedly aggressive flobberworm mucus into a Sleeping Draught. With such a potent ingredient and the expert hands of a professional potioneer, the results are exceptional |
| Session 07 - Falling Down | Vi studies the academic papers taken from Septimus Finch's old desk in Cold Plant Room. They seem to focus on themes of attraction, repulsion, magnetics and proximity. Not fully understanding them she undertakes to return them to Jackdaw Finch admitting their theft. |
| Session 07 - Falling Down | Cassie, Vi & Basil set out in search of the Room of Requirement and this time find it with relative ease - almost as if it was ready to be found. Entering into a seeming Broom Cupboard not too far into the disused section beyond the School Kitchens Cassie thinks hard about 'requiring' a London Cheescake as evience this is the Room of Requirement, thus making one appear. |
| Session 07 - Falling Down | Cassie, Vi & Basil seek to test the Room of Requirement's limitations. Aside from evidence that this is the right place they struggle and fail to make anything of their own choosing manifest. With the exception of a staircase - perhaps to 8.5.03 Eleonora Humblewood's Crypt - which the 8.5.02 Room of Requirement does permit them to conjure. Though possibly for reasons other than those the party intended. |
| Session 07 - Falling Down | Cassie, Vi & Basil start descending a seemingly endless staircase that appeared within the 8.5.02 Room of Requirement. Requiring a faster way down, they lose Basil down a slide that appeared. Catching him, they manifest a landing and Vi tends Basil's wounds as Cassie investigates a door that has appeared |
| Session 07 - Falling Down | Cassie, Vi & Basil open a door partway down the 'endless' staircase in the 8.5.02 Room of Requirement to find just a plain brick wall beyond. A small blue mote of light, (similar in colour to the wraith-like figure that swept towards Basil from the depths beneath the Cold Plant Room) hovers through the wall and towards Basil. As Cassie casts Impervius on Basil the mote, becoming aggressive, fails to find any purchase on Basil's mind |
| Session 07 - Falling Down | Late into the night now, with lessons due to start in a few short hours, Cassie, Vi & Basil give up on reaching the bottom of the staircase and turn back towards the occupied floors of the castle. Cassie wills the stairs to become shorter, which they do, however the 8.5.02 Room of Requirement seems to refuse to permit them to leave yet |
| Session 07 - Falling Down | Whilst underground, and protected by the 8.5.02 Room of Requirement, Cassie, Vi & Basil experience extreme ground tremors as some kind of earthquake or localised seismic event shakes the entire foundations of the School. Held in the 8.5.02 Room of Requirement the DIADEMs suffer no ill effects or injuries from the quake and the room seems to allow them once again to access the broom closet (and exit door) above |
| Session 07 - Falling Down | Returning to ground level after descending into the 8.5.02 Room of Requirement in search of 8.5.03 Eleonora Humblewood's Crypt, Cassie, Vi & Basil force their way out and back into the castle proper. They are greeted by a scene of extraordinary destruction, as an entire collonaded section of the castle has crumbled in the quake. Screams of terror - perhaps even of pain - can be heard coming from the occupied sections of the castle beyond |
| Session 09 - Ghosts of Christmas Past | After the tremors of November 1939, the DIADEMs are put on something of an accelerated learning program. Cassie, Vi & Basil all learn Expelliarmus and Engorgio/Reducio. |
| Session 09 - Ghosts of Christmas Past | Vi writes to Morwenna (Moira) Thorne seeking advice for her misfiring magic. None is given, her mother seeming somewhat cagey on the subject |
| Session 09 - Ghosts of Christmas Past | Vi learns from Hokey that the Hogwarts Kitchen Elves continue to have difficulty with their magic and have been struggling to create the traditional Hogwarts Yule Log. |
| Session 09 - Ghosts of Christmas Past | Cassie, Vi & Basil locate Bernard in a hallway (using Cassie's self-made Objectum Revelio spell), where he is making off with a large shiny bow-tied package. On inspection this appears to be a gift for Bernard from the Hogwarts Kitchen Elves who have given him a box of his own shiny baubles, perhaps in the hope he will stop nicking theirs |
| Session 09 - Ghosts of Christmas Past | Vi & Basil attempt Proficiency Training to learn Objectum Revelio from Cassie. Neither progresses on first attempt, but the process has begun |
| Session 09 - Ghosts of Christmas Past | Vi begins to press Basil on his mother, Annabelle Featherstone (dec.), which Basil seems reticent to open up about. Cassie, far more bluntly, asks outright if Maj. Rudolph Augustus Featherstone DSO MC (Ret.) killed Annabelle Featherstone (dec.). Fearing for the effect it may have on his friend's opinion of him, Basil finally admits that it was he who killed his mother. |
| Session 09 - Ghosts of Christmas Past | Distressed by the admission of his past, Basil runs from Vi & Cassie but is thwarted in his escape. Cassie catches up with him and after he reflexively (but unsuccessfully) casts Stupefy on her, she makes peace with a gift of a cricket bat shaped dark chocolate (as well as gifting Vi a mint truffle) |
| Session 09 - Ghosts of Christmas Past | Cassie, Vi & Basil head to Nearly Headless Nick (Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington)'s Deathday Party in the undercroft, hoping to investigate the strange Humblewood mote that The Fat Friar reported |
| Session 09 - Ghosts of Christmas Past | The Yule Ghoul manifests before Cassie, Vi & Basil at the Deathday Party; a featureless Silver soldier, identifiable from its silhouette as a Tommy. The DIADEMs learn that a silver ghostly warrior appearing in Yuletide season has been a legend in the wizarding world for years, but not actually seen for centuries. |
| Session 09 - Ghosts of Christmas Past | Cassie, Vi & Basil question The Fat Friar about the visions and peculiarities they witnessed at the ghostly Deathday Party. They learn that the Professor of Charms during Eleonora Humblewood (dec.)'s schooling was one Felix Bourne (dec.), an ancestor of today's Charms Professor, Prof. Elara Bourne. No portraits of former Prof. Bourne hang in the castle, but the Hogwarts House Elves are responsible for portrait storage |
| Session 09 - Ghosts of Christmas Past | Cassie, Vi & Basil leave Nearly Headless Nick (Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington)'s Deathday Party some time after it dissolves in fear and chaos. More perturbed than enlightened by the reappearance after centuries of the Yule Ghoul and their strange visitations from the mote of Eleonora Humblewood (dec.) they depart back into the deserted corridors |
| Session 00 - The Wand Chooses the Wizard | Cassie Weasley, Vi Thorne & Basil Featherstone each purchase a wand from Gideon Ollivander at Ollivanders Wands in Diagon Alley |
| Session 00 - The Wand Chooses the Wizard | Cassie Weasley, Vi Thorne & Basil Featherstone learn that they are selected by the Ministry of Magic to join the D.I.A.D.E.M.s |
| Session 00 - The Wand Chooses the Wizard | Vi Thorne learns the recipe for Star Grass Salve |
| Session 00 - The Wand Chooses the Wizard | Cassie Weasley, Vi Thorne & Basil Featherstone sorted into Hufflepuff House |
| Session 14 - Spring 1940 | Cassie, Vi & Basil meet Prof. Dumbledore to assess the Enchanted Rubber Duck and the Orb. Revelio revealed nothing. |
| Session 14 - Spring 1940 | Cassie, Vi & Basil see Prof. Dumbledore cast Homenum Revelio, on the orb and grimoire showing Eleonora's spirit to be present even when not visible as a mote |
| Session 14 - Spring 1940 | Vi forms her research group to explore a potion that can restore expended arcana (sorcery points/spell slots). The initial group comprises Madam Willow, Prof. Slughorn, Fizzy & Maeve O'Malley |
| Session 12 - Eleonora's Tomb | Vision: The Healer's Burden (c.1325): Cassie, Vi & Basil manifest as blue motes of light and witness a younger Eleonora Humblewood (dec.) serving as a gifted healer in a makeshift plague hospital located within the Hogwarts Boathouse (1325). During this vision, Eleonora is seen pioneering cures using Ancient Magic crystals and Star Grass; the use of this raw power causes spirits to swarm her, marking the onset of her madness as the dead realize she can "feel" them. |
| Session 12 - Eleonora's Tomb | Vision: The Great Fire & The Forbidden Cure (September 1666): Cassie, Vi & Basil observe Bartemius (Barty) Finch (dec.)’s Apothecarium in Pudding Lane, London, surrounded by the flames of the Great Fire. |
| Session 12 - Eleonora's Tomb | Cassie, Vi & Basil actively affect a vision by aiding Bartemius (Barty) Finch (dec.)’s escape, helping him and his large "latrine-like" treasure chest—the same chest the party discovered in the Cold Plant Room in Session 06—through a basement window and into the crowds. |
| Session 12 - Eleonora's Tomb | Cassie, Vi & Basil witness Bartemius (Barty) Finch (dec.) locking his chest and concealing the key inside the hollowed-out base of a common Hufflepuff Cup; the trio now has reason to suspect this specific cup remains somewhere within Hogwarts. |
| Session 12 - Eleonora's Tomb | Cassie, Vi & Basil in a vision learn that the Great Fire of London was intentionally ignited by an unknown power who unleashed a Giant Fire Crab upon the city to harness natural magicks. |
| Session 12 - Eleonora's Tomb | Vision: The Industrial Blight (c.1851): Cassie, Vi & Basil observe the Ministry’s previous DIADEM. program operating near the Crystal Palace, utilizing a massive machine to capture vestiges of Ancient Magic. The "Industrial Blight" surrounding the event is understood as a metaphor for the creeping spread of Muggledom and industrialization during Victorian England. |
| Session 12 - Eleonora's Tomb | Cassie, Vi & Basil learn that Petunia Arbuthnot (dec.)'s death was the primary reason the original DIADEM program was shelved for nearly a century before being "dusted off" by the current Minister in 1939. |
| Session 12 - Eleonora's Tomb | Before being released back into the material world, Cassie, Vi & Basil experience a harrowing "taste" of Eleonora Humblewood’s madness, feeling the overwhelming weight of her haunted existence and the burden of her Inner Eye. |
| Session 11 - First Year Flyby | Cassie & Vi learn Inanimatus Conjurus. During the course of which Vi summons an ornate perfume bottle and Cassie a one-handed wall clock - the start of another project and a reminder of one her father gave to her mother. |
| Session 11 - First Year Flyby | Cassie, Vi & Basil meet to discuss the death of Annabelle Featherstone (dec.). Seeking somewhere discrete, they head for the Room of Requirement |
| Session 11 - First Year Flyby | Arriving three abreast, Cassie, Vi & Basil find the Room of Requirement this time accessed via a revolving door of blue, green and grey aura-d panes. Basil steps through and manifests one of the sitting rooms at Mallory Court. The room creates tea and biscuits. |
| Session 11 - First Year Flyby | Basil recounts to Cassie & Vi elements of his back story regarding the death of his mother: See The death of Annabelle Featherstone |
| Session 11 - First Year Flyby | The Room of Requirement manifests a copy of today's Daily Prophet, which Basil reads to Cassie and Vi: "Ministry Thwarted at Hogsmeade Skinkhole by Strange Blue Mote" |
| Session 11 - First Year Flyby | Cassie, Vi & Basil learn a raft or new potions, and are equipped with various quantities and qualities of: Herbicide Potion, Regerminating Potion, Confusing Concoction & Forgetfulness Potion |
| Session 11 - First Year Flyby | Vi notices Penelope (Penny) Perkins acting strangely. Upon investigation, Penny is wired on a cocktail of Baruffio's Brain Elixir & Wide-Eye Potion. As Cassie stashes Penny's supply (in Agnes Finch's side table!), Vi takes Penny to sleep (ot whatever!) it off in the Hospital Wing |
| Session 11 - First Year Flyby | Cassie, Vi & Basil head on brooms to the Hogsmeade Sinkhole. On approach, Vi is buffetted badly by some sort of magical energy emanating from deep under the ground out from the sinkhole |
| Session 11 - First Year Flyby | As Cassie, Vi & Basil arrive at the sinkhole they find a squad of Ministry of Magic witches and wizards firing spells ineffectually into the void, watched over by Alastair Thorpe-Wick, Head of eth Dept of Magical Mysteries. |
| Session 11 - First Year Flyby | Cassie & Vi dive into the sinkhole on broomback in pursuit of the plummeting Basil. Vi sees a number of Acromantula wandering towards the surface and, still affected by the unexplained energy pulsing from beneath, is unable to keep pace with Cassie. Vi's magic begins to misfire once again. |
| Session 11 - First Year Flyby | Whilst falling down the Hogsmeade Skinkhole, Basil communes with the spirit of Eleonora Humblewood (dec.). When he asks if his friends, Cassie and Vi can accompany them wherever they are going, Eleonora informs Basil that "We will meet them. At the end. We go to where it all began and where it will all end" |
| Session 11 - First Year Flyby | At the very bottom of the Hogsmeade Sinkhole, Cassie, Vi & Basil find a curious metal box, explosed in places to reveal complex clockwork mechanisms. Cassie, using her Elder Wand's Specialis Revelio discerns that the box is emitting the very Ancient Magic that is affecting Vi |
| Session 11 - First Year Flyby | Cassie, Vi & Basil discover at the bottom of the sinkhole an ancient passageway, now exposed the the air way above. At a depth of over -300ft, tunnels head off in two directions. One leading west is visible to all, but one leading East is hidden behind similar illusory shields as used at the Forbidden Forest Test Pit. Vi sees right through it. |
| Session 11 - First Year Flyby | Cassie, Vi & Basil follow the mote of Eleonora Humblewood (dec.) along the passage leading East |
| Session 11 - First Year Flyby | Cassie, carrying the strange metal box, uses the Messaging Scrap to contact Jackdaw Finch. He informs her that she, Vi and Basil are in danger. The Ancient Magical IED seems to be a hugely powerful weapon or disruptor. On Jackdw's advice, Cassie abandons the device at the back of a large chamber |
| Session 11 - First Year Flyby | Eleonora Humblewood (dec.)'s mote leads Cassie, Vi & Basil to a large circular chamber. In the centre stands a pedestal surrounded by marble columns. The mote enters a glass orb on the pedestal and glows within |
| Session 11 - First Year Flyby | Cassie, Vi & Basil enter the hole in the ceiling of the round chamber and arrive in another long passage. They follow it for a long time before Cassie thinks to contemplate an exit. With the same instant gratification of the Room of Requirement, a door appears |
| Session 11 - First Year Flyby | Cassie opens the door that appeared in the tunnels beneath Hogwarts. She, Vi & Basil find themselves looking at another stone wall immediately behind the door (as they have seen once before when Eleonora's mote flew through one). The mote disappears through it like a ghist would, leaving the party perplexed in the tunnel. |
| Session 03 - Foray Into the Forbidden Forest | Vi Thorne learns the recipe for Pet Tonic and begins practicing its creation with Prof. Slughorn |
| Session 03 - Foray Into the Forbidden Forest | Cassie Weasley, Vi Thorne & Basil Featherstone learn a little of the Wizarding World's divisions during the last War: A rebel group known as the Wizarding Interventionist Unit was founded (or formed organically?) repeatedly defying the International Statute of Secrecy (for the first time since The Ilfracombe Incident in 1932). Meanwhile, the Ministry of Magic was divided; Whilst Hector Fawley, Minister of Magic espoused non-intervention, scheming elements of his Privy Council sought to bribe, threaten or otherwise influence muggle events. |
| Session 03 - Foray Into the Forbidden Forest | Basil recounts to Vi & Cassie how his father, Maj. Rudolph Augustus Featherstone DSO MC (Ret.) was awarded his Military Cross despite being known by his commanding General to have used magic in extremis during the conflict, firing Devicto instead of his muggle rifle. Having taught the spell to Basil, this is why Basil's Devicto makes the sound of a rifle when he casts. |
| Session 03 - Foray Into the Forbidden Forest | Cassie recounts to Vi & Basil how in her past she was visited by two non-descript ministry officials: one a fat, plainly-dressed Ministry official, Alastair Thorpe-Wick and the other a tall gaunt wizard named Percival Graves, Dept of Secrets. Their interest in her seemed to centre around her wand, however she did also share with them her divine foresights regarding the impending war and destruction of London. It was these men who gave her Bernard |
| Session 03 - Foray Into the Forbidden Forest | Seeking further insights into the disappearance of Septimus Finch, Cassie leads Basil& Vi in search of a portrait of a wise herbologist who may have known something of Professor Finch Sr's experiments. They find their way to the Wall of Heroes. |
| Session 03 - Foray Into the Forbidden Forest | Dangling from the Wall of Heroes, Basil first sees Elladora (Ella) Ketteridge (Portrait). He falls. requiring an urgent trip to the Hospital Wing, despite Vi's capable ministrations |
| Session 03 - Foray Into the Forbidden Forest | Whilst receiving treatment for a broken ankle (Brackium Emendo, as observed closely by Vi) Cassie, Vi & Basil meet Madam Willow (School Nurse) |
| Session 03 - Foray Into the Forbidden Forest | Cassie, Vi & Basil learn that Madam Willow once served three days in Azkaban for being a member of the Wizarding Interventionist Unit. Something she is unabashed about even to this day. |
| Session 03 - Foray Into the Forbidden Forest | Cassie Weasley, Vi Thorne & Basil Featherstone attend a joint Potions & Herbology class (also attended by the Slytherin House 1st years) with Horace Slughorn & Mirabel Garlick (albeit with Prof. Garlick doing most of the heavy lifting). During this class they foray into the Forbidden Forest |
| Session 03 - Foray Into the Forbidden Forest | Seeking ingredients for Blemish Blitzer, Cassie, Vi & Basil are sorted into their own (supposedly 'elite') group and head out into the Forbidden Forest. Vi and Cassie slide down a hillside, following Plop in a successful search for Flobberworms as Basil is beset by Gnomes back on the higher ground |
| Session 03 - Foray Into the Forbidden Forest | Vi & Cassie encounter unprecedentedly aggressive(!) Flobberworms |
| Session 03 - Foray Into the Forbidden Forest | Basil fends off peculiarly hostile Gnomes for a time, before Cassie and especially Vi come to his aid. Vi absolutely unleashes with Aguamenti, as Cassie deploys a muggleball kick to send gnomes tens of feet into the canopies beyond |
| Session 03 - Foray Into the Forbidden Forest | As Cassie, Vi & Basil conclude that there is something uneasy - wrong almost - with the Forbidden Forest, Jackdaw Finch untransfigures from his moth form and approaches the group looking stern |
| Session 13 - Under More Controlled Conditions | Cassie, Vi & Basil learn a handful of new spells courtesy of Prof. Blishwick and Jackdaw Finch, clearly chums of old it would now appear. You learn: |
| Session 13 - Under More Controlled Conditions | Cassie, Vi & Basil returned to the caverns beneath the Hogsmeade Sinkhole, this time with Jackdaw Finch, Myrddin Blishwick and a little more time. Navigating an intentionally created (track-covering) rockfall, you entered through an already magically-opened door, as opened by Cassie in Vi's vision in Session 08 - Aftermath |
| Session 13 - Under More Controlled Conditions | Cassie, Vi & Basil discover a goblin workshop beneath the Hogsmeade Sinkhole, utterly destroyed - intentionally it would seem - by fire. The occupant, presumably the same Ancient Goblin Artificer that Vi saw in her vision had destroyed much of the contents. However you did find: |
| Session 13 - Under More Controlled Conditions | Cassie, Vi & Basil take Jackdaw Finch to Eleonora's Rest though find no sign of Eleonora Humblewood (dec.) this time |
| Session 13 - Under More Controlled Conditions | Cassie, Vi & Basil fly with Jackdaw Finch along the tunnels beneath the Hogsmeade Sinkhole and surrounding valley, eventually finding the underside of Bartemius (Barty) Finch (dec.)'s Strange Latrine-like chest. Using Partis Temporus to break through the magical barrier you all returned to the Cold Plant Room |
| Session 13 - Under More Controlled Conditions | Cassie, Vi & Basil finally confess to Jackdaw Finch that they removed an Ancient Magic crystal from the Cold Plant Room. Realising now what the machinery in there was missing, Jackdaw Finch completes the restoration as best as he could and continued his excitable experiments into Septimus Finch's work. 'Perhaps by a man's work shall ye know him' |
| Session 08 - Aftermath | Cassie, Vi & Basil return to the destruction above ground after the (first?) magical seismic event. Navigating the rubble they arrive at the corridor outside the School Kitchens. Cacophonous noise comes from behind the wall as the DIADEMs Wingardium Leviosa the ticklish pear back into place and restore the only painting of one now very happy portrait wizard |
| Session 08 - Aftermath | Vi helps a group of Hogwarts Kitchen Elves extinguish a fire caused presumably by the earthquake or perhaps (as becomes apparent) by the evident misfiring of the House Elves natural magic. In helping them, Vi realises that her own magic, whilst still casting from her wand, is augmented by random additional effects - conjuring coins, a temporary Veela Charm, giving Cassie a Periculum-red glow for about 13 minutes. |
| Session 08 - Aftermath | The Doughnut Plant hastily conceived by the Hogwarts Kitchen Elves for Basil goes wild after the earthquake of Oct 1939. Expanding constantly it begins to fill the Hogwarts Kitchen Pantry forcing the under elves to flee to the surface kitchen. Basil partially deflates it with Devicto before a quick thinking Cassie (and a quick Accio-ing Vi) use salt to arrest the expansion. Vi's magic misfires again. |
| Session 08 - Aftermath | Vi bravely throws herself upon the prone form of Cassie, sustaining a Protego shield around them as she casts Episkey to restore Cassie to consciousness. As both spells once again trigger a random magical side effect for Vi nothing too awful befalls them. |
| Session 08 - Aftermath | Vi, still covering the recently-recovered Cassie, is attacked by the last remaining Pixie (Cornish). Using Aguamenti, Vi fires the Pixie off her neck (and directly into Basil's veg) |
| Session 08 - Aftermath | Armando Dippet requests the help of Cassie, Vi & Basil in locating and retrieving Mirabel Garlick who rushed to the Herbology Greenhouses to check on her plantlife charges |
| Session 08 - Aftermath | Cassie, Vi & Basil head to the Herbology Greenhouses in the aftermath of the seismic events of October 1939 in search of Prof. Garlick. They find all of the plants to be growing wildly and exhibiting strange behaviour |
| Session 08 - Aftermath | In one of the ancillary (upper year) Herbology Greenhouses, Cassie, Vi & Basil encounter a strange hybrid of Venomous Tentacula and Devil's Snare. Using Lumos to evade the tendrils, they move away before the Tentacula flowers become an issue. |
| Session 08 - Aftermath | Cassie, Vi & Basil hear Prof. Garlick from afar, saying she is caught in a large and dangerous plant. The project of Sean Perton, a Slytherin NEWT student of hers. |
| Session 08 - Aftermath | Vi interacts with a strange variation of Thaumatagoria - a sentient plant that, when Vi tries to Accio some earmuffs and her magic misfires, seems to try to prevent her doing so. |
| Session 08 - Aftermath | Cassie, Vi & Basil deduce a probable connection between Ancient Magic, the natural magic of the Forbidden Forest, the power of the Hogwarts Kitchen Elves, the plants in the Herbology Greenhouses and Viola Thorne herself. That the area around the Room of Requirement seemed so affected by the seismic event raises the question of whether that may utilise the same ancient magic too |
| Session 08 - Aftermath | Vi touches the crystal Cassie stole from Septimus Finch's Strange Latrine-like chestchest in the Cold Plant Room. Her body is outwardly calm and peaceful but Cassie and Basil are unable to rouse her. Cassie nudges the inert Vi with a foot before casting a 'safe' spell on the crystal (Alohomora) |
| Session 08 - Aftermath | Vi's conciousness is transported to an endless, timeless void. After what could be a moment or an eternity, a small pinprick of red light appears in the distance as a sense of space and geometry returns. Vi wills herself towards it, revealing a Strange & Ornate Vanity Unit with a matching stool and a mirror surrounded by red bulbs. In the mirror is a vision of a long, dark tunnel |
| Session 08 - Aftermath | Willing herself 'into' the scene in the mirror, Vi's consciousness enters into a long, dank tunnel deep underground somewhere loamy. Travelling along it she finds the same Strange & Ornate Vanity Unit. This time the mirror shows a vision of her own inert body back at the school with Cassie and Basil. As Cassie nudges Vi with her foot, the entire tunnel swings and snakes wildly, throwing Vi off her feet. |
| Session 08 - Aftermath | Recognising the connection between body and mind, Basil cleverly uses Flagrate to communicate with Vi. Vi used Lumos & Nox to respond, as spells cast (wandlessly) within the 'vision'/'dream'/whatever-this-was seemed to have no effect there, but did affect her body in the 'real' world |
| Session 08 - Aftermath | With rudimentary communication established, Cassie, Vi & Basil collectively get the mirror in Vi's mind to spin, revealing a reverse image of a door, which Cassie Alohomoras from the real world as Vi strobes brightly on and off in yes/no communication. |
| Session 08 - Aftermath | Vi's consciousness steps through the mirror and arrives in a cavernous undergrouns workshop. A mix of mundane, magical and muggle devices dotted around. Vi glimpses an Ancient Goblin Artificer or Engineer or something and hears him mutter "another failed attempt. I suppose I shall have to try again then, perhaps elsewhere" |
| Session 08 - Aftermath | The Ancient Goblin Artificer senses Vi's consciousness intruding and as it turns and throws something at her - a potion or liquid of some kind. As it splashes over the crystal - now somehow in the hands of her unconscious self here Vi is transported in the blink of an eye to a dark field or meadow. All senses return, as if she is back in the real world until she is again torn away a split second later, this time by Basil |
| Session 08 - Aftermath | Basil wrestles the crystal from Vi's grip, weakened by Cassie's familiar use of Digitus Wibbly (causing it to 'appear' in the other realm where Vi's consciousness resided, for her to hold out before the Ancient Goblin Artificer) |
| Session 08 - Aftermath | Vi awakens, obviously disturbed, but seemingly whole. Concerned, Basil & Cassie escort her back to the castle, but the pull of adventure is strong and they instead climb the 8.9.02 Clock Tower and the Divination Tower to look upon Locharbor and the road to Hogsmeade Village in particular |
| Session 08 - Aftermath | Cassie, Vi & Basil see for themselves the ENORMOUS sinkhole that has swallowed the road from Hogwarts School to Hogsmeade Village. Easily 100ft in diameter it sinks to a depth unseeable from the castle. Determining to get some sleep, Cassie & Vi manage it, but Basil gains 1 level of exhaustion |
| Session 10 - The Keys to the Broom Closet | Cassie, Vi & Basil exchange several homebrewed gifts, including a Cauldron - Self-stirring for Vi, a Girding Potion and a pocket watch for Basil, and an old cricket bat from Cassie, alongside a collection of Chocolate Frog cards and spare vials for Vi. |
| Session 10 - The Keys to the Broom Closet | Over the break, Vi and Cassie question their matriarchs, Morwenna (Moira) Thorne and Lavender Weasley, regarding the seismic magical events and political shifts that occurred during their first term at Hogwarts. |
| Session 10 - The Keys to the Broom Closet | Vi and Cassie perform clandestine research into the death of Annabelle Victoria Featherstone, discovering she was a Muggle socialite and stage star whose untimely demise around 1928 involved a visit from the Ministry Accidental Magical Reversal Squad. |
| Session 10 - The Keys to the Broom Closet | Upon their return to school, the DIADEMs (the "Finchypuffs") share their holiday findings, though Vi and Cassie deliberately withhold their research into Basil’s mother to spare his feelings. |
| Session 10 - The Keys to the Broom Closet | Magical volatility within the castle begins to subside; Vi’s spellcasting and the Hogwarts Kitchen Elves' magic finally normalise after the disruptions caused by the October seismic event. |
| Session 10 - The Keys to the Broom Closet | Cassie, Vi & Basil attend Flying Lessons with Cirrus Vane, who teaches the Hover, Vertical Dash, and Flyborne Fluster while brazenly defying a Ministry official sent to observe the class. |
| Session 10 - The Keys to the Broom Closet | As a reward for their DIADEM status, Cassie, Vi & Basil earn official access to the broom closet, granting them permission to explore the Hogwarts Valley in its entirety. |
| Session 05 - Trouble at the Mine | Vi contacts her mother using the Messenger Book. She learns about Moira's Reach and how it came to be, proudly tells her mother about her invitation to join The Slug Club and asks her mother about treatments for mental health disorders |
| Session 05 - Trouble at the Mine | Morwenna (Moira) Thorne teaches Vi via letter the spell Exhilaro "That brings me to another thought. Healing isn’t always about mending bones, my love. Sometimes it’s about lifting a spirit. There is a simple but wonderfully effective charm I want you to learn: the Cheering Charm, Exhilaro. "The incantation is straightforward, and the wand movement is a gentle, uplifting flick. The key is intent. A simple desire to bring a moment of joy will make a person feel cheerful and give them heart against their fears. But if you concentrate, if you channel a truly happy memory—much like aurors do for a Patronus—the effect is far more potent. It can send the target into incapacitating fits of laughter. It is a fine charm to practice, though perhaps try it on a cushion before you try it on Plop. And remember your potions; should you ever overdo it, a simple Draught of Peace is the perfect counteragent!" |
| Session 05 - Trouble at the Mine | Cassie, Vi & Basil receive their allowances. Basil = 5G, Vi = 14S, Cassie = 0 |
| Session 05 - Trouble at the Mine | Cassie, Vi & Basil head to the School Kitchens to ask the Hogwarts Kitchen Elves if they know anything about Eleonora Humblewood (dec.) or 8.5.03 Eleonora Humblewood's Crypt. They find Fizzy, who seems more interested in feeding them and showing them around. He does explain that the only level he knows beneath this one is the 8.4.05.01 Pantry Realms |
| Session 05 - Trouble at the Mine | Basil & Vi spend some time exploring the pantries and distracting Fizzy. They see Erumpents roaming African Savannah, miles of orderly veg beds and orchards and witness the House Elves NPD team try to create a Doughnut Plant, which Basil helps to steer the development of. |
| Session 05 - Trouble at the Mine | Basil, and especially Vi, meet Tinky - a young house elf who is growing up in the Pantry Vegetable Realm. Vi uses Star Grass Salve to reduce the swelling on Tinky's hands after he picks nettles with his protective gloves on his ears. |
| Session 05 - Trouble at the Mine | After an urgent message from Jackdaw Finch, Cassie, Vi & Basil head to the HVMC test pit in the Forbidden Forest. There they find 5 British paratroopers, presumably on training manoeuvres, being puzzled by the 'Illusory Dome' that Kiko has erected to deter muggle curiosity |
| Session 05 - Trouble at the Mine | Basil uses his rifle-sounding Devicto, followed by a first use of Periculum, to distract 4 muggle soldiers and draw them into the treeline. Vi then unleashes a Moira's Reached blast of Aguamenti, pinning one to the ground and repelling two others. |
| Session 05 - Trouble at the Mine | As Cassie, Vi & Basil aid Jackdaw Finch in preventing the escape of any of the muggle soldiers (whilst also stopping Kiko from doing anything else crazy), Jackdaw tweaks the memories of the survivors and sends them on their way. He then disapparates to report the incident to the Ministry of Magic, despite Cassie's attempts to persuade him to... tidy up... by other means. |
| Session 06 - Arania Exumai! | Vi senses the Goblin's illusory magic hiding the entrance to the HVMC-run Forbidden Forest Test Pit |
| Session 06 - Arania Exumai! | Kiko confirms that Vi is one of the rare wizards/witches who is able to see vestiges of this Ancient Magic |
| Session 06 - Arania Exumai! | Cassie, Vi & Basil successfully repel the Acromantula and Giant Spiders within the HVMC controlled Forbidden Forest Test Pit. Kiko behaves protectively towards them throughout, though allows the students to lead the assault. Whilst there they briefly observe some strange crystals, the effects of which later become apparent in the Cold Plant Room |
| Session 06 - Arania Exumai! | Vi fails to successfully extract acromantula venom but does successfully find Angel's trumpet, Bundle of & Death cap mushroom. The former very much out of its element as a subtropical species. |
| Session 06 - Arania Exumai! | Cassie, Vi & Basil use the Messaging Scrap to contact Jackdaw Finch at the Ministry of Magic. Jackdaw explains that he is 'smoothing things over. Speak to no one on your way back to the castle'. With which, the party returns stealthily to the safety of the School grounds. |
| Session 06 - Arania Exumai! | Cassie & Vi ponder Vi's ability to sense Ancient Magic, associating it with the strange windows in the Cold Plant Room. Vi questions how the ministry knew of her ability even before she did, and resolves to ask her mother about this at some stage |
| Session 06 - Arania Exumai! | Vi & Cassie hit the library in the final week of the first half term. Cassie seeks information on the whereabouts of the Room of Requirement, whilst Vi researches ancient magic. Both also seek any information about Eleonora Humblewood (dec.) or The Humblewood Crypt but find nothing more. |
| Session 06 - Arania Exumai! | Cassie, Vi & Basil return to the Cold Plant Room hoping to better understand some of its strangeness. They explore the freezer field, a Strange Latrine-like chest and the desk of Jackdaw Finch, and presumably his brother, Septimus Finch before him |
| Session 06 - Arania Exumai! | Cassie, Vi & Basil find, in a weird latrine-like chest, a crystal of the same kind as they saw in the Forbidden Forest Test Pit. It is suspended on an invisible platform a few inches above an illusory chest base which sits atop a vertical drop of several hundred feet into darkness |
| Session 06 - Arania Exumai! | Vi touches the mysterious crystal and is fired backwards directly into the Freezer Field, whereupon she is electrocuted back again by a solitary conjured spider that remains in the room, presumably since the last lesson. In a brief moment where they were both connected to the stone, Cassie shares a memory of Vi as a child with a grazed knee being administered Star Grass Salve by her mother, Morwenna (Moira) Thorne. Vi Episkeys herself back to health, with obvious cause to further ponder the nature of ancient magic |
| Session 06 - Arania Exumai! | Opening the second Strange Latrine-like chest chest in the Cold Plant Room, Vi observes a long vertical drop. Basil fires a Periculum into the void and it recedes beyond sight. Cassie & Vi give Basil a cautious and consensual 'swirly' to see what lies down there |
| Session 06 - Arania Exumai! | Cassie busts into the professors' desk in the Cold Plant Room and finds a paper Book - On The Properties of Star Grass, co-written by Septimus Finch and Morwenna (Moira) Thorne. She also finds a large stack of seemingly coded papers, taking a random sample of 12 for future use or investigation. Drawing this to Vi's attention, Vi gathers up 10 further papers from the collection of Septimus Finch on various herbological and alchemical subjects. |
| Session 02 - First Lessons | Cassie Weasley, Vi Thorne & Basil Featherstone arrive at the Hufflepuff Tower and get their first experience of the Hufflepuff Common Room and go to sleep in their new Hufflepuff Dormitories. House password: "Helga's Children" |
| Session 02 - First Lessons | Cassie Weasley, Vi Thorne & Basil Featherstone meet Helga Hufflepuff (Portrait). A round of Butterbeers grease the wheels of the first evening before Cassie turns Helga to harder drink with questions about avoiding homework. |
| Session 02 - First Lessons | Vi Thorne approaches Penelope (Penny) Perkins and offers to be her study buddy. Penny enthusiastically accepts. |
| Session 02 - First Lessons | Cassie Weasley deceives Penelope (Penny) Perkins into completing the first night homework set by Jackdaw Finch. Penelope (Penny) Perkins ultimately ropes her study buddy (Vi Thorne in to helping too, eventually completing the homework and learning that it was not necessary for her) |
| Session 02 - First Lessons | Cassie Weasley, Vi Thorne & Basil Featherstone meet their Head of House Mirabel Garlick and learn she has been acting Herbology Professor for 8 years since the disappearance of Septimus Finch from the Forbidden Forest whilst gathering supplies |
| Session 02 - First Lessons | Cassie Weasley, Vi Thorne & Basil Featherstone learn that Septimus Finch was researching more potent potions and was genetically modifying (amongst other things) Star Grass |
| Session 02 - First Lessons | Cassie Weasley plucks up the confidence to show her Elder Wand to Basil & Vi. Cassie & Basil each share their visions of the impending war (Cassie seeing barrage balloons over London and swastika-d tail fins on planes) |
| Session 02 - First Lessons | Vi Thorne & Cassie Weasley (Karima) meet Agnes Finch, a fellow Hufflepuff 1st year who revealed herself as the niece of Jackdaw Finch and the missing Septimus Finch |
| Session 02 - First Lessons | Cassie Weasley, Vi Thorne & Basil Featherstone learn - with some kindly steering from Albus Dumbledore - Vera Verto (Vi Thorne being somewhat starstruck by the Frog Card face in person) |
| Session 02 - First Lessons | Cassie Weasley, Vi Thorne & Basil Featherstone attend their early lessons. Defence Against the Dark Arts with Prof. Euphemia Blight, Herbology with Mirabel Garlick, History of Magic with Prof. Cuthbert Binns (Ghost) and a few other more eventful ones |
| Session 02 - First Lessons | Cassie Weasley, Vi Thorne & Basil Featherstone attend their first Astronomy lessons with Prof. Satyavati Shah, with the tower offering commanding views across much of Hogwarts Valley. Everything appeared peaceful enough. |
| Session 02 - First Lessons | Cassie Weasley, Vi Thorne & Basil Featherstone learn Wingardium Leviosa from Prof. Elara Bourne. Cassie demonstrates good Hufflepuff teamwork and earns 5pts for Hufflepuff |
| Session 02 - First Lessons | Cassie Weasley & Vi Thorne learn Lumos & Nox in Charms class with Prof. Elara Bourne. They see Basil's' charms prowess for the first time. |
| Session 02 - First Lessons | Cassie Weasley, Vi Thorne & Basil Featherstone attend their first Potions class with Prof. Horace Slughorn. Each learns the recipe for Antidote of Common Poisons. Over the first few lessons Basil & Cassie manage a couple of flawed versions and Vi impresses Slughorn with 3 standard quality ones, even from poor ingredients. |
| Session 02 - First Lessons | Horace Slughorn offers to teach Vi Thorne any Extra-curricular Common Potion as well as providing its ingredients and mentorship |
| Session 02 - First Lessons | Horace Slughorn extends an open invitation to Vi Thorne to use the Potions classroom for her own brews. He will carve out a workstation on the outer wall for her and undertake to care for her creations |
| Session 02 - First Lessons | Horace Slughorn hints at impending invites for Cassie Weasley, Vi Thorne & Basil Featherstone to his prestigious Slug Club, whose first meeting will be after the October half term |
| Session 04 - Voices from Elsewhere | Vi continues to practice her Potion making. Using the ingredients obtained in the forest (plus quills from Prof. Kettleburn) she makes a standard Blemish Blitzer and using Horace Slughorn's blatant favouritisim for Vi as a distraction, Cassie is able to whip up a Fungiface Potion on the sly. Vi tests her creations on the ever-willing Plop (Vi's toad) |
| Session 04 - Voices from Elsewhere | Vi receives an owl parcel containing an empty bottle and an exercise book. These are an Endless Vial of Moira's Reach - a family heirloom recipe - and Ma Thorne's Messaging Book. |
| Session 04 - Voices from Elsewhere | Cassie, Vi & Basil join Jackdaw Finch for their first formal DIADEMs lesson, learning Arania Exumai in the Cold Plant Room. Upon arriving, they find the scenes in the 'greenhouse' windows to have changed (at Jackdaw's behest) since they were last here |
| Session 04 - Voices from Elsewhere | Cassie, Vi & Basil have an opportunity to question Jackdaw Finch. He is suprisingly forthcoming, having perhaps realised he cannot carry all of the weight he does alone. They learn that he has had a difficult start at Hogwarts, with the faculty resenting his Ministry of Magic associations. He is an Investigator in the Department of Mysteries, tasked with - amongst other things - attending to the Hall of Prophecy. The ministry sought volunteers to embed themselves at Hogwarts to prevent strong young wizards 'going dark'. Given his desire to investigate Septimus Finch's disappearance, he took the role. |
| Session 04 - Voices from Elsewhere | Jackdaw Finch appears as startled as Cassie & Basil when Vi somehow manages to change the view outside the windows by sheer force of will. He had been experimenting with his older brother's 'settings', but had achieved nowhere near the level of control that Vi exhibits |

01.06.1.6 Background - Potioneer#d4 Wood (Personality Traits)
Larch wands have a reputation for instilling confidence and courage in the user. The celebrated wandmaker Garrick Ollivander found that larch always created wands of hidden talents and unexpected effects, which likewise describes the master who deserves it. It is often the case that the witch or wizard who belongs to the larch wand may never realize the full extent of their considerable talents until paired with it, but that they will then make an exceptional match.
Wand core (Ideals): Dragon Heartstring

Quite Flexible: I'm horribly jealous of anyone who outshines my work. Everywhere I go, I'm surrounded by rivals.
Viola's D.I.A.D.E.M. Abilities
Vi is unsure - perhaps even insecure - about why she has been selected for the DIADEM program. Is this a mistake, or do they know or see something that she doesn't?
